At the time of writing, the petition had received a total of 1,659 signatures from the grand duchy.

That is up from 220 signatures from Luxembourg on 21 March and 1,639 when Delano checked on 27 March.

There were 5,900 British nationals living in Luxembourg in 2018, according to Statec.

Altogether the “revoke article 50” petition has garnered 5,913,059 signatures. UK parliamentary petitions that reach 10,000 signatures receive a reply from the government; those that attain 100,000 signatures are considered for a parliamentary debate. (The petition remains open for signature until 20 August.)

The House of Commons will debate the petition on 1 April. However, the British government has already replied that it would reject the petition.

The UK government stated on 26 March that:

“It remains the Government’s firm policy not to revoke Article 50. We will honour the outcome of the 2016 referendum and work to deliver an exit which benefits everyone, whether they voted to Leave or to Remain.

“Revoking Article 50, and thereby remaining in the European Union, would undermine both our democracy and the trust that millions of voters have placed in Government.”

MPs voted against revoking article 50 by 184 to 283 on Wednesday evening.
