On 16 and 17 August, the group, which included 20 adults and 23 children, were met at Findel airport by representatives of reception office Olai, the Luxembourg Red Cross and families ministry.

The individuals were interviewed by a Luxembourg delegation visiting Istanbul in June this year. They had previously been on a UNHCR refugee shortlist.

The resettlement agreement was signed on 18 March, 2016, between the European Union and Turkey and ensure that for each Syrian who is readmitted by Turkey from the Greek islands another Syrian from Turkey is resettled in an EU member state.

A fifth group of Syrians from this programme is expected to arrive in Luxembourg in early October.
