The Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL) issued a statement on Friday 23 March 2018 on behalf of its members reassuring residents that the ATMs used by Luxembourg banks, “meet the highest security standards recognised worldwide.”

The statement reads:

“Despite the absence of a specific and legislative framework in Luxembourg, the banking community has been installing ATMs that also meet the highest customer protection standards in terms of their location,” and adds, “European police statistics demonstrate the effectiveness of the investments made by Luxembourg banks to secure their ATMs.”

Thieves blew up the ATM at the Niederanven post office branch at around 3:50am on 21 March. The explosion destroyed the post office building, according to police.
