The Best Cities index, produced by the tourism advisory firm Resonance Consultancy, stated that Luxembourg’s international citizenry (more than 170 nationalities), its multilingualism and location in the heart of Europe make it an ideal location for a city break. Not only that, but there is also reasonable chance of bumping into the grand duke himself as visitors take in the Unesco heritage site’s many cultural offerings.

According to the ranking:

“In a city founded in 963, built on cliffs and sliced through with river gorges, there are incredible views, including from the terrace of Luxembourg City History Museum.”

Adventure seekers can scale the ancient battlements of one of the world’s most fortified cities or check out the underworld by exploring its miles of tunnels. For the more contemporary-minded, Best Cities recommends a visit to the Mudam contemporary art museum in Kirchberg, the report noted.

Luxembourg was 76th out of the 100 best cities on the group’s 2018 list, which was released in November 2017.
