Nearly everyone who lives in the grand duchy speaks French; only 2% don’t.
That’s according to a survey conducted for the education ministry by TNS Ilres, released on 7 June 2018 (in French and in Luxembourgish).
Among the other findings:
80% of respondents said they speak English
77% stated that they speak a competent level of Luxembourgish
70% speak all three of the country’s official languages (French, German and Luxembourgish)
The ministry commissioned the survey to measure the role of Luxembourgish in the country’s social fabric. 83% agreed that Luxembourgish was an important language for integrating into Luxembourg society.
