Travel: Findel has placed in the top 100 in a massive survey of travelers at nearly 400 airports worldwide, but behind London, Frankfurt, Brussels and Paris.
Luxembourg Findel Airport has been named the 85th best airport in the world by a major air travel research firm. That was up two places from last year’s rankings, Skytrax said on April 10.
The top five worldwide in 2013 were Singapore Changi Airport, Incheon International Airport, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and fifth placed Beijing Capital International Airport.
London Heathrow Airport placed 10th, while Frankfurt Airport was 11th, London City Airport was 34th, London Gatwick Airport was 35th, London Stansted Airport was 41st and Brussels Airport was 66th.
Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport was named 82nd, beating Findel by three places.
The best US airports were 36th ranked Denver International Airport, followed by 40th placed San Francisco International Airport and 48th placed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Dublin Airport took 95th place.
“The World Airport Awards are based on 12.1 million survey questionnaires completed by 108 different nationalities” taken over nine months in 2012 and 2013 at “more than 395 airports worldwide”, Skytrax reported. The surveys measure “39 different airport service and product key performance indicators--from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.”
Airports do not pay to participate in the study and cannot influence the survey results, according to the firm.
