In response to a parliamentary question, secretary of state for the economy Francine Closener stated last month that the net creation adds up to 128 companies.

In Luxembourg, the “artisan” or trade sector sector comprises jobs in the food sector, fashion, health and hygiene, mechanics, construction and housing, communication, multimedia and events, and jobs in the arts.

In the food sector, 7 new companies got a licence to operate; in fashion, health and hygiene, 24; in mechanics, 22; in communication, multimedia and events there were 15; and 2 in the arts.

Divided by nationality, 25.7% of these new licences were given to French citizens, followed by Portuguese (17.4%), 16% to Luxembourg nationals and 15.5% to Belgians.

As for the creation of new companies in a personal capacity (“en nom personnel”), the ministry issued 158 licences, of which 88 were given to women and 70 to men. Most of these women (41) work in the sectors of fashion, health and hygiene, followed by the arts sector (19), and construction and housing (16). The men’s licences were issued mostly in the sector of mechanics (31), followed by communication, multimedia and events (18), and construction and housing (17).
