Dubbed “Sam’s Big Stupid Marathon Show”, Ara City Radio’s “Freshly Squeezed” breakfast slot was extended by some 29 hours as presenter Sam Steen stood behind the mic from 6 a.m. on Thursday to 2 p.m. on Friday. Aided by his usual accomplice Mark Weedon, station manager Lisa McLean, fellow Ara City presenters Ben Andrews, Marina Lai Lentz and Natasha Liati-Jones, and a host of special guests throughout the 32-hour marathon, Sam was raising money via pledges made by listeners for the Luxembourg Cancer Foundation.

By the end of the show, pledges had totalled close to €8,000.  “The experience was genuinely humbling. The response that people gave was incredible and the amount of money pledged was just amazing,” Sam told Delano after coming off air.  “It was much more fun than I thought it would be. I don’t know how soon I would want to do it again. The listeners really helped me get through it with texts and calls and messages of support or dropping off food throughout the entire 32 hours.”

Donations of support to the Cancer Foundation can still be made via the group’s bank account, details of which are at the bottom of the page of its homepage at www.cancer.lu mentioning “Sam’s Big Stupid Marathon Show.
