The 51-year-old will take up his new role on 1 July. Most recently Gerges worked as VP of marketing and corporate communication at Luxair, which he (re-)joined most recently in 2016. He had worked there previously between 2003 and 2011.

According to the statement, Gerges said the move was a “return to my first love--radio has always been my favourite medium.” A total of 16 applicants had initially met the requirements for the post before they were gradually narrowed down to a short list by the board.

The board’s president Laurent Loschetter hailed Gerge’s “profound knowledge in the area of journalism and in the Luxembourg political, economic and cultural world” and said that “he possesses the managerial competencies required to lead and develop sociocultural radio.”

Having started his career in journalism in Luxembourg and France, Gerges has held previous roles at Maison Moderne (the publisher of Delano), where he was partner and editorial director, as well as at Le Quotidien, Lëtzebuerger Land and RTL.
