Dean of Miami University Dolibois European Center (Mudec) Thierry Leterre confirmed the project saying it could help the centre "offer a more integrated curriculum and a diversity of housing options”.

The existing campus at the medieval Château de Differdange welcomes up to 120 students from Miami University Ohio, in the US, each semester.

Leterre explained that it has five classrooms with limited space. "We are looking at opportunities that would provide us with more room... and rooms. Miami University has expressed its interest to Differdange in considering the former hospital as a future location, depending on the financial feasibility,” Leterre told Delano.

Mudec recently reinforced its roots in Differdange with the signing of a twinning agreement between the steel town and Oxford, Ohio, where Miami University has its base.

Leterre said that Mudec had been instrumental in bringing the two cities together for a site visit. Among the short-term outcomes of the agreement could be visits from high school students in the US to Differdange, business exchanges and educational programmes.

“The partnership between Differdange and Oxford will provide to this city of education and creative intelligence a global environment that is precisely the one where Miami in Luxembourg has been thriving for now nearly 50 years,” Leterre said.
