The figure totalled 607 kg per person in Luxembourg, fourth after Denmark (781), Cyprus (637) and Germany (633) in the ranking of 25 countries for which data was available. 

Municipal waste is defined by Eurostat as “waste collected by or on behalf of municipal authorities and disposed of through waste management systems”. It can include not only waste from households but also from public institutions, shops, offices, etc.

In the EU in the same year, 30% of waste was recycled, compared to 24% in 2007. Landfilled waste also improved over the 10-year period, with 24% landfilled in 2017 compared to 43% in 2007.
