Like many people back in 1990, I was captivated by CNN’s coverage of the Gulf War. I had never watched the news channel before. One of its most informative voices was (and still is) Christiane Amanpour.
Amanpour was the first female war correspondent to enter my consciousness. And she was covering conflict in the middle east to boot. Plus she was reporting so much more intelligently than her male counterparts.
Since then her career has been full of scoops and awards. She’s made errors, as every journalist does, but overall I’ve found her reporting to be fair and, above all, incisive. That’s not a bad role model for anyone working in a news organisation.
