Take part in the vote to name the tram: will it be Charly, Boss, Nemo or Speedy? Lifschutz Davidson

Luxembourg broadcasting corporation RTL has come up with a shortlist of 24 names (below) for the transport system expected to open in Luxembourg City later this year.

All readers need to do is vote for their favourite by sending an sms marked "tram" and the number of your favorite name to 62468. It costs 50cents/sms. To count, votes should be cast before 12 noon on 26 March.

It is not the first time that a tram system will operate in the capital. The first was rolled out in 1875 when horse-drawn trams operated along a ten-kilometre line. The system was eventually phased out as buses replaced trams. The last tram line to Beggen closed on 5 September, 1964.

Among the proposed tram names are some that will be familiar to Luxembourgers. The original Luxembourg-Echternach railway line was nicknamed Charly, while the Jangeli was the name given to various narrow-gauge railways in Luxembourg.
