Weekend extended rail services were introduced on lines 10 (Luxembourg - Troisvierges) and 60 (Luxembourg - Esch-sur-Alzette – Rodange), from December 11, 2016, as part of a pilot project.

Responding to a parliamentary question, Luxembourg Infrastructure minister François Bausch said that a total of 224 night trains operated over the period, benefiting 4,091 passengers.

The occupation rate on the Luxembourg-Troisvierges train was on average 22.5 people per train while the rate was 36.5 passengers for trains travelling south.

Take-up on the Troisvierges trains reached a peak on the weekend of 28 January when rail operator CFL recorded 88 to 121 passengers on separate trains.

Bausch said there are no plans to extend the operating hours for other lines.
