This week a Luxembourg resident submitted a petition to the Chamber of Deputies to prevent Donald Trump from entering the country.

The petition has yet to be approved but if it is and it garners over 4,500 signatures, it would oblige politicians to debate the matter.

It seems unlikely that Trump would visit Luxembourg as no sitting US president has before.

George H Bush visited while vice president to Ronald Reagan before becoming president himself.

Public holidays, motorist fines & medicinal cannabis

Among the other petitions to be approved is one calling for more public holidays in Luxembourg, reduced waiting times in A&E for children and an increase in fines for road users who run red lights as well as introduction of speed cameras at dangerous crossings.

There are currently a number of petitions which are open for signature, including 771, calling for the recognition of the destruction of an eco system as a crime, the legalisation of medicinal cannabis (768) and the promotion of teleworking to reduce traffic (766).

Currently, the most popular is petition 762 calling for a minimum 30 days paid statutory leave for people working in the private sector. At the time of publishing it had over 10,000 signatures.

Anyone can sign a petition provided they are aged 15 or above and have a Luxembourg social security number.
