Six runners from the refugee centre in Mondercange signed up for the 4th edition of the Smartrun race, which is organised by Jean-Philippe Wagnon and Michaël Lucas with the commune of Koerich, Ecoparc and other local companies.

The winning team outran the other participants with an outstanding performance of 9km in approximately 30 minutes, according to Wagnon.

However, refugees didn’t only participate as runners, they also ran food stands for the “Marche gourmande” (gourmet walk), Caroline Theves of Caritas told Delano on 29 September. Two Eritrean women were present during the event, providing participants with the necessary fuel to continue the run.

New for this year’s edition was the participation of 15 children from the Hêtre crèche in Windhof, who took part in a mini-race together with their parents.

Each participating team collected €10 which will go to Caritas, Wagnon said. He added that a cheque for the raised funds will be handed over to the charity in the upcoming weeks.
