Ride your bike to work, school or university at least 15 times between 15 May and 31 July to be in a chance to win top cycle prizes in the contest.

Entrants must register as a team of between two and four people to qualify for the contest. Everyone who registers receives a small gift from Luxembourg public transport association Verkéiersverbond.

The scheme, which has been running for several years in Luxembourg, was set up to encourage alternatives to the car in a bid to reduce emissions.

Last year, 736 teams registered for the challenge, and a total of 1,915 people participated.

The project enables participants to record the distances travelled each day by bike over the period.

In 2016, participants pedalled 504,561 kilometres, saving 112,391 kilos of CO2.

While the challenge does not start until 15 May, people can register already for the scheme by visiting www.mvos.lu
