The bill is still in progress and would only concern secondary school textbooks for school starting in September 2018, Meisch noted on 29 September.

He said the ministry is aware that text books are a significant source of income for Luxembourgish book shops, and therefore they still need to develop their bill in order to protect work places in the sector.

In terms of the new secondary school reform, in which secondary schools will have a greater autonomy in the courses they are offering, Meisch noted that secondary schools will also be able to adapt textbooks to their specific programmes. For general courses, however, which will be taught in every secondary school, the programme committee will still decide what textbooks will be used, Meisch said.
