Just 6.4% of energy consumed in the grand duchy in 2017 came from renewable sources. The Netherlands (6.6%) and Malta (7.2%) had the next lowest proportions.
The figures were released by Eurostat on 12 February.
The EU statistics agency said “Sweden had by far the highest share” (54.5%), followed by Finland (41%) and Denmark (35.8%). The EU average was 17.5%.
The bloc’s goal is 20% renewable energy by 2020 and “at least 32% by 2030”. The grand duchy’s national target is 11% by 2020, according to Eurostat.
While Luxembourg’s 6.4% share was small, it still signified a gain from 5.4% in 2016, 5% in 2015 and 4.5% in 2014.
