For the first time this year, shops will be allowed to stay open until 4pm instead of 1pm on 24 and 31 December.

Whether you’ve forgotten an  all-important Christmas gift, you need to pick up some last-minute supplies or you just want to mooch around the shops, this year you can.

The exceptional late opening times were voted into law in Luxembourg and, though the law states shops may stay open until 6pm, the economy ministry limited it to 4pm, apparently out of respect for people working.

The exceptional opening times will apply to participating shops in Luxembourg city and in shopping centers around the country.
