Jean-Claude Juncker is unable to attend the hearings for the SREL trial Maison Moderne

The trial was supposed to start on 29 November, and Jean-Claude Juncker, former Luxembourg prime minister and current president of the European Commission, was on the witness list.

However, on Tuesday 21 November, the spokesperson of the judiciary informed the public that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Juncker would be unable to attend the hearings, and the trial would have to be postponed.

In July, the public prosecutor’s office announced that the former head of the secret service, Marco Mille, the head of operations, Fränk Schneider, and Srel employee André Kemmer will face criminal charges.

They are accused of breaking data protection and privacy protection laws in connection with three CDs, containing a recording of a conversation in 2007 between Juncker, at the time prime minister of Luxembourg, and the Grand Duke Henri. Mille has been charged with making the recording. Kemmer is also accused of illegally sharing CDs (the so-called Frisbee affair).
