High temperatures are expected to continue and so, along with the Luxembourg Red Cross and Copas (the federation representing health service providers to the at-risk population of the grand duchy), the Ministry of Health has issued the following guidelines:

The elderly & sick

  • Please visit elderly or sick family and friends on a daily basis to ensure they have enough water, sparkling or mineral. Ideally, they should be drinking 1.5 litres per day.
  • Make sure that they stay out of direct sunlight. They should spend the best part of the day in cool places or in the shade.
  • Close windows and blinds that are directly exposed to the sun during the day.
  • Try to ensure they regularly take showers or partial baths to stay cool.

Speed limit

The government has also confirmed that the speed limit on Luxembourg’s motorways is now limited to 90km/h until further notice, to reduce air pollution.

Thursday and Friday, according to current forecasts, are expected to be the hottest days with the mercury not expected to drop below 30°. The weekend should see a slight reprieve as temperatures 26–28° are expected.
