Launched on 16 January 2017, the sarl-s offers an alternative structure for entrepreneurs starting a business on a tight budget. Unlike limited liability companies, which require the entrepreneur to have €12,000 in capital, sarl-s founders can get their company off the ground with a single euro.

The Luxembourg trade and companies register recorded 684 simplified sarls in 2017 and a further 590 were recorded so far in 2018.

House of Entrepreneurship business manager Guylaine Bouquet-Hanus told Paperjam that web professions like webmasters were highly represented among the new companies created as were “people who enter the field of consulting, coaching, wellbeing, alternative medicine such as reiki.”
