A swimming & drinking ban has been imposed on the Upper Sûre lake due to harmful algae. Take care of pets too.Photo: Maison Moderne archives.

As part of the regular monitoring of the quality of bathing water, a proliferation of the potentially harmful "blue-green algae", known as cyanobacteria, has been observed across the entire Upper-Sûre lake. As a result, a ban on bathing and all other nautical activities has been put in place with immediate effect.

In addition, authorities also insist that dogs and other pets do not drink water from the lake, and that any fish caught should not be consumed.

If you should experience any health problems after swimming, please talk to your doctor and mention any contact with toxic cyanobacteria.

Monitoring of the situation will continue.
