RT Lëtzebuerg claims it is independent, but has the same phone number and email address as RTPictured: a screenshot of RT Lëtzebuerg's Facebook page taken on 29 May.

The group was founded in April 2017 and stated that it is an independent project and that they are not an official part of RT, the Moscow-backed international broadcaster which was formerly known as Russia Today. RT Lëtzebuerg’s motto is “ask more.”

On its site, the Luxembourg outfit said that it wanted to:

“reach people that are not happy with the media landscape in Luxembourg or people who want to get other sources of information. RT Lëtzebuerg should publicise mostly articles which primarily touch on Luxembourg or are relevant for Luxembourg. Most articles will be published in Luxembourgish or irregularly in German or French.”

On Monday morning, the website had published an interview with Joe Thein, founder of the new party Déi Konservativ, on the local elections (in Luxembourgish); an article on the French president Emmanuel Macron (in French) on his meeting with Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, on 29 May; and others on Luxembourg’s debt “problem”, one contribution on an asteroid and a “dossier on so-called Islamic State and the USA.”

The same contact details as RT

While the site claims to be an entirely independent group, it apparently has links, or claims links, with the Russian state broadcaster.

On the Facebook page of RT Lëtzbuerg, the contact details listed are the same phone number as the reception desk and the same contact email address of “TV-Novosti and Channel RT TV”, who operate RT.
