Kussbus, which won the last “Mind & Market” contest for its algorithm-based shuttle service, ran the service using three Emile Weber buses from 7am to 9am then from 4pm, to benefit commuters.

“We are waiting to see what the take-up on this first line will be. If it turns out to be high, we will launch new routes connecting districts in Luxembourg City,” CEO Jean-Luc Rippinger told Paperjam on Wednesday. He added that a connection with Thionville is also in the planned, pending permission from French authorities.

The service uses an algorithm which creates virtual stops on any given route based on saved queries on the Kussbus system. Using this information, it calculates the fastest and most suitable route, based on real-time traffic and favouring roads with bus lanes.

Pitched as a cross between a taxi and public transport, the service costs €5 for a one-way trip between Arlon and Kirchberg.
