Parliament has voted to approve the financing of the construction of two new platforms at Luxembourg City’s main railway station in order to better serve the 2.5 million passengers per year, and 70,000 passengers that it receives every working day.

Work will start in autumn this year to be completed by the end of 2021 at a cost of €171 million.  As well as two new platforms, new covered waiting areas are planned and connections to the rest of the station via new stairs, lifts and an extension to the underground passages will also be included.

Toilet facilities change

The CFL has also announced that access to the toilets at the station have also been modernised. Turnstiles, accessible by inserting a token, have been installed. The tokens, which cost 70 cents for both male and female users, are available at an automated machine neat the entrance to the facility. The price of a shower has also been reduced from €7 to €5. Children under the age of 7 can use the bathroom facilities for free. The toilets will be open from 5 a.m. until 1 a.m. on weekdays, and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
