Speaking on the sidelines of Monday’s Fonds Kirchberg press conference, François Bausch (Green party) said that a study was underway examining the exhibition and congress centre. He also expressed a preference to replace the building with shops and businesses but did not say where the venue would be relocated.

Among the most well-loved events hosted at the site are the International Bazaar, a two-day charity fundraising event in which the international community hosts stands from around the world. Luxexpo also hosts the finish of the annual ING Night Marathon, welcoming thousands of runners and visitors. And in recent years one of its halls provided a temporary home for people seeking asylum.

Luxembourg’s chamber of commerce, a majority stakeholder in the site, is expected to host a press conference on Monday morning outlining the economic impact of the site.
