Luxembourg residents have a wide variety of favourite places where they want to spend their holidays.

Asked what was their dream destination, 10% of Luxembourg residents indicated either the USA or Australia.  Eight per cent responded one of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland) and France.

Next are Canada (7%), Italy and Thailand (6%), followed by Spain and Japan (5%).

The responses varied according to the profile of the respondents: household income, nationality, and especially age seem to influence where people want to spend their dream holidays.

By continent, Europe is by far the most attractive destination for 45% of respondents. This percentage increases with age (57% for those over 65 years of age, against only 35% for those between 18 and 24 years). Second is North America with 18%.

In a different poll, TNS Ilres found that 46% of respondents preferred to stay in 3-4 star hotels, and 24% in 5 star hotels. Camping is not popular among Luxembourg residents, with only 2% of respondents saying they want to spend their holidays that way.
