- The second Fintech Awards features a new category to promote female participation in the financial technology sector. The “Women in fintech award” will be presented alongside the “Fintech startup of the year” and first and second runners-up. The prime minister, Xavier Bettel, and finance minister, Pierre Gremegna, are expected to attend the awards ceremony, on 28 June at KPMG’s offices in Kirchberg.
- A Chinese businessman has used a Luxembourg-based investment vehicle to purchase the Italian football club AC Milan. Li Yonghong’s Rossoneri Sport Investment Lux bought the team from Silvio Berlusconi for €740m.
- A new bank has launched to serve small and medium sized businesses. Boulevard Royal-based Riverbank provides financing between €750,000 and €3m to firms in Benelux and Germany.
- The Association of Luxembourg Compliance Officers has elected three co-chairmen to replace Thierry Grosjean at the end of his term. Marie Bourlond, Laurent Moser and Vincent Salzinger will jointly lead the organisation’s board for 2 years. Alco has around 750 members, making it one of Luxembourg’s largest financial trade groups.
