Families, friends and a coincidental two bachelorette parties came out to the park on 14 July to enjoy an afternoon of sunshine and good company. Attendance to the event was not as large as anticipated however, with only 76 people reporting to have gone on Facebook, down from last year, when 2,100 said they went.
Picnic-goers Elenora and Francesco had sprawled out in the shade after finding out about the event on Facebook. “It’s nice, especially because the weather is perfect--not too hot or too cold,” said Elenora. “I thought there would be more people,” she added, attributing the lower turnout to the event coinciding with Bastille Day.
Organisers of the event had wanted to revive picnicking, explaining on Facebook, “the tradition of a picnic has been around for centuries, but we seem to be doing it less and less.” While there may not have been as many guests as planned, everyone in attendance seemed to have a smile on their face and was happy to spend the sunny afternoon in one of Luxembourg City’s many green spaces.
