The Luxembourg Red Cross’ international section has raised €10,000 for the organisation’s food pantry during the fourth annual “Afterwork Swimming” event.
Nine corporate teams participated Thursday at leisure centre Les Thermes in Strassen-Bertrange.
The proceeds to go the Luxembourg Red Cross’ “Buttek” social grocery store, which supports families living in the Grand Duchy in need. The pantry’s clients can buy essential food products for about one-third of the market price.
Teams competed in four races: aquatic marathon, an endurance relay race, sprint swimming and water running.
Tied in first place were the Cargolux and HSBC teams. The Fishstix Voyages Emile Weber and BBH teams tied in third place. Arendt & Medernach, Citibank, Deloitte, P&T and State Street Bank also fielded teams.
Winners of the sprint--two 25 metre laps--were Tim Dickie of Cargolux in the men’s category (27.07 seconds) and Laidi Pukk of Fishstix Voyages Emile Weber in the women’s (34.75 seconds).
All told nearly 60 swimmers took part in the fundraiser, which was organised by 20 international section volunteers.
