Pol Cruchtenâs âNever Die Youngâ has not only won the LĂ«tzbeuerger Filmprais for best documentary, it is also Luxembourgâs entry to next yearâs Academy Awards.
Local film maker Pol Cruchten is one of the pioneers of the Luxembourg cinema industry. His debut feature film Hochzäitsnuecht was one of the first Luxembourg language films and was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival.
Since then he has delivered a series of very watchable films including the charming Perl oder Pica, based on a favourite Luxembourg novel. He has also nurtured local talent through his Red Lions production company.
Now comes a very personal project. Never Die Young is a documentary based on conversations with his cousin, a crippled heroin addict. But the film is a poetic take on the story, with surreal visuals.
The film, which picked up the best documentary award at the Lëtzbeuerger Filmprais last year, is released with English subtitles. It is also Luxembourg’s entry to next year’s Academy Awards in the best foreign language film category.
