The competition, organised by KPMG Luxembourg, aimed to identify and support outstanding financial technology startups with a connection to the Grand Duchy. The contest had drawn 80 outfits by the time applications closed in April. Then 15 startups presented during a semifinal round in May, which in turn nettedten finalists.
During the grand finale, held Tuesday evening at KPMG’s Kirchberg HQ, the ten had their last chance to pitch their project. The top three prizes were presented later during the event, which was attended by Xavier Bettel, the prime minister, and Pierre Gramegna, the finance minister.
Governance.io was named “Fintech startup of the year”, winning €50,000 and four months at the Technoport incubator. The company facilitates regulatory compliance in the investment fund sector.
Scaled Risk’s Hervé Bonazzi was named “Fintech entrepreneur of the year”, earning a week of networking with bigwigs in Silicon Valley. The startup’s technology lets financial firms tap into big data for risk and regulatory compliance functions.
Maison Moderne, the company that publishes Delano, was an official partner of the competition.
UPDATE: Following the ceremony, KPMG rebranded the competition as “Fintech Awards Luxembourg”. Information about the second edition will be announced on the Fintech Awards Luxembourg website.
