Even with half of the country away on vacation, here are some fun activities to spice up the next weeks in the grand duchy. From outdoor festivals and thrilling rides, to playing mini golf or going on a virtual tech tour of central Europe, we’ve got you covered for the month of August!

Relish the thrills and spills of “ D’Stad lieft”

Tuesday 8 June - Sunday 12 September 📍Multiple locations

Don’t miss out on "D’Stad lieft 2021", a series of fun events across the city. The traditional Schueberfouer may have been cancelled for the second time in a row, but with a line-up of substitute summer programmes, the month of August is set to be anything but boring! Your choices are nearly endless and each programme offers something different.

1.     Klangbuer – Mansfeld Sessions: series of small concerts in Mansfeld Park in Clausen. Tickets cost €12 per person. Open until 4 August.

2.     Kiermes am Duerf: neighbourhood funfairs mostly for kids in 10 different locations. All rides are free. Open until 12 September.

3.     Kiermes wéi fréier: featuring 15 historic funfair attractions from 1886 to 1960 and performances at the Kinnekswiss park. Open until 15 August.

4.     City Sounds: several concerts are still on offer including  on 6 August, on 8 August, on 9 August, and  on 13 August. Tickets cost €12 per person. The venue is the Glacis.

5.     D'Stad liest: open air library featuring readings from local and international authors and several performances. Entry is free. Starting from 18 August close to the Notre-Dame cathedral.

6.     Fun um Glacis: 42 rides for adults and many other attractions. Starting from 21 August at the Glacis.

7.     Theaterplage: artificial beach at Place du Théâtre. Open until 12 September.

8.     Concerts de midi: free afternoon concerts for classical music lovers. A performance by Nora Braun Trio takes place on 6 August. Entry is free but registration is required.

9.     Other activities: Bonus activities such as such as the decoration of streets and public spaces with colourful lampshades, mini exhibitions in a funfair-themed pop-up store, outdoor art festivals and several markets are foreseen.  for a full list of events.

Watch the captivating documentary about District Unknown, Afghanistan’s first and only metal band, that also reflects an exciting but short-lived era of a grassroots movement. The film by Australian filmmaker Travis Beard, a resident of Kabul for seven years, reveals rare scenes from the inside that are rarely shown in Western media, including underground parties that challenge a stereotypical understanding of a traditional and conservative Islamic republic. An activity for both young and old. The mobile mini-golf course will be available from Monday to Friday throughout the month of August. Clubs and balls will be provided at the Ettelbruck City Tourist Office at 5 Rue Abbé Henri Muller. .

Air Games is back in Luxembourg, and with about 14 massive inflatable obstacles there’s no better excuse for you to throw all caution to the wind and relive your childhood memories. Join mini version of e-Lake festival

A modified version of the e-Lake festival, normally held over three days on the bank of Echternach lake, will be held on two days at a new venue due to the effects of the July floods. This mini version of the event is equally packed with fun activities including performances by top acts such as  &  (17:00 - 18:00),  (18:00 - 18:45),  (19:05 - 20:05), and  (20:25 - 22:25).

A charity event for the victims of the floods is scheduled for 8 August between 15:00 and 22:00 at Echternach’s abbey.  to get more details.

Event hightlights for the month of August include the Crossroads exhibition by William Kentridge, organised with the association Lëtz Rise Up, and focusing on parallels between the subjects of the exhibition and little-known aspects of Luxembourg history as it considers the theme - Luxembourg, a colonial state? Tours in English will take place on 21 (11:00 – 12:00) to 22 (14:00 -15:00) August. A fee of €8 will apply.

As part of an interactive installation of an artificial intelligence device to write haiku (popular Japanese poems of 5-7-5 syllables), the Geisskan Kollektiv also invites you to the Sculpture Garden to express yourself and leave your trace at the Mudam. The event takes place between between 10:00 and 18:00 until 30 August. Mudam’s Summer Project, More Spoken Words also takes place every Wednesday evening from 18:00 to 22:00 at the Summer Café.
