This year’s Autofestival will take place from 25 January to 3 February 2025 at 90 car dealerships across Luxembourg.

While the Brussels Motor Show is currently underway, the Autofestival will be taking place in the grand duchy from 25 January to 3 February 2025. A total of 170 showrooms in will be in the spotlight for the 61st edition of this festival. They will also be opening their doors on Sundays during the event.

According to organisers, the Autofestival remains "the key moment to take advantage of the best price offers and to discover many new models in Europe and on the Luxembourg market. Around fifty new models will be presented, including five world premieres from the Brussels Motor Show." As every year, the festival offers competitive prices, attractive discounts, advantageous financing and bonuses of up to €6,000 for new electric vehicles.

Fedamo trade group chair Philippe Mersch stated during a press conference on Monday: "For many dealers, sales during Autofestival represent up to 35% of annual turnover for the first two months of the year."

The vehicle registration body SNCA's operational director, Manuel Ruggiu, said: "The Autofestival is and remains the ideal time to buy a car."

At the press conference, held at the Chamber of Skilled Trades (Chambre des métiers) on 13 January 2025, Fedamo also described new registrations in 2024 as "a return to normal, as 2023 was marked by a catch-up in order delivery times."

While new car registrations , used car registrations rose slightly by 0.9% to 59,341 units. If all types of vehicle are taken into account, there was a 4.4% fall in registrations.

Ecological transition progressing slowly but surely

100% electric cars are still as popular as ever, thanks in particular to the subsidy scheme and the new €1,500 grant for secondhand electric cars. However, Fedamo pointed to the end of subsidies for plug-in hybrids, stopped at the end of 2021, even though they could have made a greater contribution to the energy transition in Luxembourg.

In 2024, according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure, average CO2 emissions from new cars fell by 7.7%. This reflects the progress made by manufacturers in reducing emissions, but there is still a long way to go to achieve the national objectives of Luxembourg’s National Energy and Climate Plan, the Pnec.

Electric vehicles continue to make progress: they now account for 27% of new registrations, while plug-in hybrids are stagnating. Combustion engines, although on the decline, are still in the majority of cars on the road.
