Major milestones
This year, the Philharmonie celebrates not one, not two, but three anniversaries! Twenty years since the inauguration of the Philharmonie building in 2005.15 years of inclusion with the Fondation EME, bringing music to places where it is rarely heard, and 10 years of music and friendship with Gustavo Gimeno. This season will in fact be your last chance to see the maestro at the helm of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, so don't miss out! The orchestra's artistic year starts on 20.09. with the concert "Colours & Contrasts", presenting a musical tale for children by Ravel, a symphony recycled from an opera by Shostakovich, and a double concerto by Prokofiev.
Artists in focus
For your greatest pleasure - and ours - a few artists will grace the Philharmonie with their presence more than once this year. The violist Tabea Zimmermann, keen on championing novelty, has been selected as Artist in Residence this 2024/25. She will be performing three times at the Philharmonie, including with the Luxembourg Philharmonic for the Farewell Concert of maestro Gustavo Gimeno. The world-famous violinist Hilary Hahn and the star conductor Tugan Sokhiev are also expected to step multiple times on the stage of the Grand Auditorium.
Jazz greats and rising stars
Beyond classical music, jazz heads are in for a treat, with Kenny Barron and Brandon Marsalis among the big names this season at the Philharmonie. Also from the Marsalis family, Wynton returns with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. In a more contemporary vein, Mary Schneider and the Oslo Jazz Ensemble will get us reflecting on the dark side of our digital age. Saxophone fans will be delighted to learn that Joe Lovano and David Murray are also expected to visit the Philharmonie this year, and will be able to meet new talents such as the promising Emma Rawicz.
Strong Luxembourgish presence
In 2024/25, the Philharmonie gives special prominence to the Luxembourgish scene. Among others, "Rising Star" Benjamin Kruithof returns on two occasions, including a collaboration with the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Other highlights include a ciné-concert with Francesco Tristano, the continuation of the "Yoga at the Phil" sessions with pianist Cathy Krier, a Concerto for euphonium by Marco Pütz and countless activities op Lëtzebuergesch for families.
Multifaceted festivals
Be it for a weekend or a full week, our three signature festivals give you the opportunity to experience music in an immersive and invigorating way. In October, "atlântico" promises a bold and heartwarming celebration of the Portugese-speaking world whilst in November, "rainy days" shows you how genre-defying artists keep redefining what music-making means in the 21st century. Finally, the young and the young-at-heart are welcome to our next Familljefestival in 2025, which will bring the world of circuses to vivid life through music!
