03.04. Poetic music with Beethoven & Berlioz
“I see trees of green / Red roses too” sang Louis Armstrong. While Armstrong sang about red roses, Hector Berlioz famously wrote about them. In Les Nuits d’été, one of the songs is called “Le Spectre de la Rose” and depicts the Rose’s ghost dancing through the hall. The whole song collection is based on poems by Théophile Gauthier. Berlioz brilliantly conveyed their different emotions through music, dark and gloomy as much as bright and hopeful. Come sung by Michael Spyres accompanied by the Luxembourg Philharmonic, alongside two Beethoven masterpieces!
