No sooner had Christophe Buschmann announced that he was leaving the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) than his successor was appointed: Alain Herrmann, who was previously in charge of the institution’s compliance department.

On 27 August, Alain Herrmann was sworn in as data protection commissioner at the CNPD, the national body announced in a .

He has been working at the CNPD since 2012, where he started as an expert in IT and new technologies and was head of the compliance department.

Prior to that, he was active for more than 14 years as an engineer and consultant in IT and information security with various private organisations.

"His experience and propensity to step out of his comfort zone will enable the CNPD to continue its development to meet the challenges ahead and to ensure the continuity of the CNPD's activities from 1 September 2021," the release said.

He replaces Buschmann, who rejoined KPMG after five years at the CNPD.
