This summer Delano is asking readers to share “My home renovation”, a home improvement project that could inspire others. In today’s instalment: Geeta Rajaraman shares how she and her husband made over their home office.

Project overview

Name: Geeta Rajaraman.

Occupation: Communications consultant.

Location: Niederanven.

When did you start your renovation project and how long did it take? I started thinking about adding new shelves to our office October last year. It took about three months.

Was it a new property that you bought or did you renovate your existing home? I renovated my bare office.

Why did you start this project and what did you want to accomplish with the renovation? I work from home--but this past year, I have had to share my office space with my husband. A few months in, we realised we needed a bigger desk, and more room to accommodate our laptops, screens and files. I believe a clean workspace can improve your productivity.

Briefly describe the work that you undertook: With the help of some great friends and Pinterest, we came up with a design. I already had two vendors in mind and asked them for quotes. We finalised one that came within our budget and was able to deliver in time. We started the conversation in March 2021, and the shelves were installed end of May 2021.

Now that work has been completed, what are you most pleased about? I have a fair bit of OCD, so I love that all my files have now been organised, filed and arranged as I’d like. There is an organised space for the various powerbanks, chargers, cables, etc. Getting rid of clutter allows me focus on my work instead of cleaning (my friends know how much I love to clean). And, to prevent clutter from building up, we put in place organisational systems that we each follow. Having a spot for everything makes me calm and ready to tackle anything.

Looking back at the project, what would you do differently now? Nothing.
