Laura Zuccoli has stepped down after 12 years as president of Asti, the non-profit organisation for the support of immigrant workers in Luxembourg. She will be replaced by Evandro Cimetta.

Zuccoli’s decision to retire as of 1 January led to Asti’s administrative council introducing a new leadership model and to electing a new team to head up the non-profit organisation. Cimetta will take up the position of president and he will be supported by Claire Geier in the role of vice president.

An important feature of the new leadership model will be the presence of two directors, one will manage the organisation’s projects while the other will handle the political aspects of Asti’s work. The team will also feature a vice president and treasurer. Some members will be volunteers while others will be hired as staff.

"We have prepared well for this new governance in order to continue our actions in the field of political lobbying. This was done in agreement with the administrative council and Laura Zuccoli who, after 12 years as president, felt that it was the right time to step down," said Sergio Ferreira, Asti's new political director.

Zuccoli will remain part of Asti as a member of the organisation.

In view of the communal and legislative elections in 2023, Asti will carry out an analysis before making concrete proposals to the political parties. But it has already defined its position towards the reform of Luxembourg’s constitution. The non-profit organisation has taken issue with paragraphs of the draft text defining Luxembourgish as “the language of Luxembourg” and potentially making it the only official language of the country which Asti sees as a threat to social cohesion.
