ING in May 2024 announced that it would for private individuals in Luxembourg. Banque Raiffeisen--one of the five remaining banks offering services for retail banking clients--announced in a press release issued on 18 November the opening of a new branch in Esch-Belval (open since September), the opening of a new branch opposite the central train station in Luxembourg City (open since October) and the opening of a renovated branch in Alzingen (officially open to customers since 14 November). That brings the number of physical branches in the country to 29.
“For Banque Raiffeisen, proximity is not just a concept, it is a fundamental value,” commented , member of the management board of Banque Raiffeisen. “Our branches are much more than places where banking transactions are carried out: they are places where customers are welcomed, listened to and advised, where they can benefit from personalised support.”
The latest edition of the ABBL’s retail banking survey found that at the end of 2022, there were 197 bank branches in Luxembourg (a drop of 11% compared to the year before, when there were 221 bank branches). The number of ATMs also dropped: there were 456 ATMs in Luxembourg as of 31 December 2022 (versus 517 the previous year, a decrease of 12%).
According to the individual websites of six banks in Luxembourg, Spuerkeess has the most branches (49), followed by Banque Raiffeisen (29), BGL BNP Paribas (27), Post (23) and Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (21). ING still has nine branches in the country.
The ABBL’s survey also found that Luxembourg--as of the end of 2021--counted 34 bank branches and 80 ATMS per 100,000 inhabitants.
