After an , the consumer confidence indicator calculated by the Banque centrale du Luxembourg continued to improve in October, the BCL said in a issued on 30 October. The indicator rose from -10 to -9.
Households’ expectations relating to the general economic situation in Luxembourg went up quite a bit, from -11 to -6. That’s the highest reading for this component of the consumer confidence indicator since February 2022. Their expectations around their own future personal financial situation also increased, from -2 to 1.
On the other hand, Luxembourg households’ perceptions of their past financial situation have dropped again (from -5 to -9), as have their intentions to make major purchases (-20 to -24).
Calculated every month, the Luxembourg Central Bank’s consumer confidence indicator is the arithmetic mean of four seasonally adjusted components: consumers’ expectations for the general economic situation in Luxembourg, perception of households’ financial situation over the past 12 months, expected financial situation of households over the next 12 months and intended spending on major purchases (like furniture or electrical devices).
The figures for the individual components are constructed as the difference between the percentage of survey respondents who give positive replies and those who give negative replies, explains the BCL.
