A meeting of the Luxembourg and Belgian governments scheduled for next week has been postponed following prime minister Xavier Bettel’s coronavirus diagnosis.

The summit at the Domaine de la Gaichel had been scheduled for 7 July but has now been postponed until 31 August.

The government get-together is a tradition since 2004 allowing the neighbours and Benelux partners to discuss current affairs and common areas of interest.

Remote working arrangements are high on the agenda for this year’s meeting. Cross-border workers from Belgium currently can work only 24 days per year in Luxembourg or risk being taxed in their country of residence. Belgium is considering doubling this amount to 48 days, roughly one per week.

The cap was lifted with the start of lockdown in March last year and has been until the end of this year.

Employer and employee unions have in the meantime signed a new facilitating telework.
