The prime minister will remain under observation for between two and four days.

Suffering from persistent symptoms of the coronavirus, for which he tested positive on 27 June, prime minister Xavier Bettel (DP) will remain under observation in hospital for longer than the 24-hours originally prescribed on Sunday.

A statement from the government says that Bettel was diagnosed with insufficient oxygen saturation on Sunday and that his current medical condition is considered serious but stable. He will remain in hospital for between two and four days.

Minister of finance Pierre Gramegna has been given the power of signature for the government “in order to guarantee the operational continuity of current affairs”. But Bettel will assume his duties remotely.
