Cactus has launched its first automated 24-hour shop in the Echternach industrial zone.

It is not so much a ‘shop’ but a ‘vending container box’. Under its brand name Cactus Shoppi, Luxembourg retailer Cactus has deployed a convenience store looking to provide more flexibility and availability.

In partnership with independent entrepreneur Falk Schramer, Cactus has set up an always open, automated and self-access sales area. The company says that customers will be able to choose from 200 food items, including homemade products from Cactus Hausgemaacht, a selection of organic and affordable products from Alnatura, 65 items from Schnékert Traiteur and 15 items from the local bakery Jos & Jean-Marie. There are also major international and Luxembourg brands such as Luxlait, Grosbusch, la Moutarderie de Luxembourg and Rosport. Customers can also find non-food products, such as cleaning and fragrance products.

From the outside, this vending machine store looks like a converted storage room, with a whole series of dispensing machines inside. The location is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For Cactus, this is a first step towards a desire for Cactus Shoppi to be as close as possible to its active, local clientele. “The vending container box aims to be a simple, fast and efficient distribution solution while offering the most complete range of products at all times of the day,” the company said in a statement.
