Carbone 4 will have been the ‘green Big Four’ before the fight against global warming and polluting emissions and in favour of virtuous behaviour came full circle. In 2007, Jean-Marc Jancovici and Alain Grandjean, later joined by Laurent Morel, founded an independent consultancy to help businesses and public or semi-public organisations make the transition.
Seventeen years later, with 200 consultants and 800 client references, Carbone 4 is setting foot abroad, in Luxembourg, where it was already providing advice to the House of Sustainability, Inspiring More Sustainability (IMS) and several large companies.
“The Luxembourg market stands out for the dynamism of its ecosystem, particularly in finance, its interdependence with neighbouring countries and its central role within the European Union. However, there is still some way to go to achieve the national decarbonisation targets,” says Christina Stuart, who is now in charge of the firm’s Luxembourg office. “With a direct presence in Luxembourg, Carbone 4 intends to play a key role in supporting the country’s businesses and financial institutions in their strategic planning and implementation of decarbonisation policies. Our objective is clear: to contribute to the transformation of the Luxembourg economy, which has become a concern for all players.”
The services provided by the group are organised into five activities: Carbone 4 Conseil (for businesses), Carbon 4 Finance (for the financial sector), as well as the Carbone 4 Académie (for training), MyCO2 (to enable professionals and individuals to get to grips with the issues) and IF Initiative (a research project focusing on tools and methods).
Jancovici also co-founded the think-tank The Shift Project in 2010, an organisation that campaigns for an economy free of dependence on fossil fuels. Through this platform, he influences public debate and proposes concrete solutions for the energy transition. A speaker and figure in the media, Jancovici is regularly invited to appear in the media and at conferences to raise public awareness of environmental issues. He is also the author of several books, including “L’Avenir climatique, quel temps ferons-nous?” and co-author of the best-selling comic strip “Le Monde sans fin.”
