A few steps away from his Brasserie Guillaume, Sébastien Sarra has just discreetly but surely opened Casa Gabriele, a new Mecca for homemade ravioli that honours his father, in name as well as in the plates...

One might have thought that this was 's new baby, on the opposite corner of his highly regarded Bazaar on Place Guillaume II, but it is not! It is Sébastien Sarra, owner of the nearby Brasserie Guillaume, on the Knuedler place who came up with the project.

The establishment, located in the premises of a former wine merchant, opened without a warning barely a fortnight ago. Sarra tells Foodzilla: "We wanted to take it easy for this opening, especially as the space is quite small and there is a lot of traffic anyway. This gives our couple in the kitchen time to get their feet wet!"

Indeed, it's a far cry from the square metres of the neighbouring "BG" and L'Osteria, and all the better for it. There is a nice family counter atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door, with the five small tables (completed by a few others on the terrace) and the warm decoration. Good products in the window, tempting perfumes, conviviality are reminiscent of the Altra Osteria in Bonnevoie... An atmosphere created by the famous Gabriele, Sébastien's father, who lends his name to the counter and his profile to the cheerfully vintage logo of the place.

On the programme: delicatessen products, pretty hearts of cheese, Italian sandwiches (including a panini with porchetta which we had a hard time saying "ciao!"), but also and above all superb homemade ravioli, prepared on the spot in the morning by the cook and his companion, in collaboration with the illustrious padre and his recipes. Gabriele opts for the 100% veal and pecorino ravioli, with the "cream, pecorino and gorgonzola sauce" to accompany it. Verdict: always trust the padre!

It's good, it's straightforward, it's seasoned just right and it warms the heart. The pasta and homemade stuffing are really successful, tasty, rich, regressive... The generously served plate was accompanied by a glass of house wine, a beer or a soft drink. At 18€ for pasta and sauce, you can be tempted by a good big cannolo for dessert... packed and weighed. And if you're short of time, you can take a portion of six ravioli (also available with salmon/lemon and ricotta/spinach) to go in a 100% recyclable tray for 10€, as well as one of the house sauces in a glass bottle.

Finally, for Sébastien and Gabriele, the conviviality of the place is destined to go beyond its walls, notably thanks to a partnership with the nearby café Beim Renert... A win-win situation for everyone with good ravioli, it would be a shame to miss it! Casa Gabriele: 42, place Guillaume II, Luxembourg (city centre), T. 26 20 27 61
