Luxembourg’s Institute for Science and Technology (List) and Circuit Foil are launching a new research and development collaboration in a partnership to research and deploy the next generation of copper foil. A material in high demand in various growth markets.

Circuit Foil Luxembourg continues its transition to the production of higher quality products. After announcing in February 2020, the company specialising in the manufacture and sale of copper foil is joining forces with List for a new partnership between the two entities.

According to the press release sent out on 7 June, this is "the largest public-private partnership ever signed between an SME and a public research centre".

Supported by the economy ministry, the National Research Fund (FNR) and higher education and research ministry, the two partners will have a budget of €18 million to work for four years on the next generation of copper foil.

The press release specifies the use of these copper foils and the markets targeted: "Among other things, it is a question of 5G and 6G communication, copper composite materials for aircraft and the advanced material solution of current collectors for lithium-ion batteries aimed at the massive market of the rapid growth of electric vehicles in Europe.

A press conference was scheduled for Friday 11 June to clarify matters. , managing director of Circuit Foil, and , managing director of List, will be present.
