It is no longer possible to get a certified rapid antigen test directly in the centre of Luxembourg City at 70 Grand-Rue for the price of €5. You now have to go to the town hall or the Rocade building beforehand to pick up a voucher, or pay €15.

People queuing for a rapid antigen test at the test centre in Luxembourg City on Monday morning were met with a surprise.

City authorities €5 test vouchers when the CovidCheck regime was extended across the hospitality sector. The vouchers are available from city hall in Place Guillaume II or the Rocade administrative building in 3 Rue du Laboratoire, and can be redeemed at 13 participating pharmacies.

Until now, it was possible to get tested for €5 at the Grand-Rue test centre run by the city without having picked up a voucher beforehand, a shortcut that resulted in long queues outside the centre. This has now changed. The price for the test rises to €15 for people who don’t have a voucher. The City of Luxembourg did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reason behind the change.

The vouchers are for residents and non-residents alike to boost business in the capital, following fears that unvaccinated patrons would stay away from restaurants and bars if they have to get a certified test every 48 hours (72 hours for PCR tests). People can pick up a maximum of two vouchers at a time.
